Objective: Day of Guitar is an
opportunity for guitar students to
work with skilled clinicians. Each
group will be given the chance to
perform and all participants will be a
part of a large guitar orchestra.
Day of Guitar is coordinated by Dr. Julie Goldberg, Applied Guitar Instructor and Director of the Classical Guitar Ensemble at VanderCook College of Music.
This workshop will spark students’ enthusiasm for guitar and encourage them to strive to the next level of guitar performance. Instructors will pick-up tips on repertoire, running rehearsals, and playing techniques. Designed for classical, jazz, pop, and acoustic guitarists of all levels, from first year beginners to the technically advanced, Day of Guitar is a great opportunity for students to meet and make music with musicians from other schools. Students will rehearse and perform with the Day of Guitar Orchestra, receive coaching and instruction from many of Chicago’s finest guitar teachers, and be able to perform an ensemble or solo piece in the afternoon concert. In addition, all students will receive a Day of Guitar t-shirt for participating in the event.
Day of Guitar will begin with registration at 9:00 AM and end by 2:15 PM. Activities will include the Guitar Orchestra rehearsal, a clinic with jazz educator and pop performer Tony Kidonakis, lunch along with an informal jam session, a mini-concert by the Third Coast Guitar Ensemble, and a performance featuring each school's ensemble and the Day of Guitar Orchestra.
The guitar orchestra music is easy enough for beginners and includes challenging parts for the more advanced player. Instructors should practice and rehearse the music with their students before the event. Music, as well as a letter and schedule of the day's events, will be sent upon receipt of the registration form.
Completed forms and fees should be received no later than Friday, October 16, 2009. The registration fee is $15.00 per student. Please pay for all students on one school-printed check or purchase order. A credit card payment is also accepted. Make all checks out to VanderCook College of Music.
