Life at VanderCook

As a viola student at VanderCook, you will be joining a studio where peers support and encourage each other to reach goals beyond their own expectations. In your private lessons, you and I will help you to improve as a player and to achieve your fullest potential as a musician and teacher. Scales, etudes, solo repertoire, and orchestral excerpts will be just a part of the studio experience. You will also employ exercises from the Alexander Technique, Karen Tuttle’s concepts of Coordination and Body Awareness, and Howard Gardner’s philosophies on Multiple Intelligences. All will contribute to mold you into the most well-rounded teacher and performer you can possibly be. Most important, you will learn how to practice and incorporate all of the techniques to which you will be exposed, so you can pass them onto your future students.

Are you thinking about becoming a music teacher? If so, I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about teaching music. I'd also love to chat with you about what VanderCook has to offer and what you can expect if you choose to study violin or viola here. Feel free to contact me at mhall@vandercook.edu for more information.
