"Music has always been a huge part of my life. I was fortunate to be around musicians and artists who were articulate, challenging, and insistent about their art. I believe music gives us a way to express emotions where words fail and helps us to reach our dreams of a better life and a better world. And music educators give us the tools to turn those dreams into reality.”

Life at VanderCook
Life as a piano major at VanderCook is unique. Not only do we address the performance of standard piano repertoire and technique building, we also provide a program that emphasizes the skills crucial for a music educator. The piano is integral to all facets of the music education program you will run one day. In weekly private lessons, we will build up your technical ability, and expand your musicality. In addition, you will learn various styles of accompaniment, how to teach a piano lab, and the tools to put on the school musical. Unlike other schools, you will also be expected to give to give a junior and senior recital and will have numerous opportunities to perform in both large and small ensembles. Our small class size ensures you will receive individual attention and will feel a sense of belonging. We look forward to putting you on your path towards a successful career in music education.
