“When I first started playing, I had a moment when I realized this is for me. I started teaching to continue that feeling. I can perform, be creative, become part of a group, help others and, ultimately, feel good when others succeed. It’s a win-win situation.

Life at VanderCook
If you know you want to teach music, VanderCook is the place for you. Not only do we put a lot of emphasis on performance, we teach you how to teach. In your private percussion lessons, we will design a course of study that includes all of the major instrument groups- snare drum, timpani, mallets, multiple percussion, drum set, etc. Teachers with a percussion emphasis are highly sought after and your percussion training will enable you to teach band, choir, orchestra, general music, or become solely a percussion instructor. VanderCook is a small enough school that you will have the opportunity to perform in many groups such as the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combos, Percussion Ensemble, and Orchestra. Much of your learning will come from working with the other students in the percussion studio. At VanderCook, you will be surrounded by others, like you, who are passionate, motivated, and ready to do great things with their love of music.
Are you thinking about becoming a music teacher? If so, I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about teaching music. I'd also love to chat with you about what VanderCook has to offer and what you can expect if you choose to study percussion here. Feel free to contact me at email@example.com for more information.
