Dr. Thomas Liley was the Professor of Applied Woodwind Studies at Joliet Junior College, where Jillian had the privilege of attending weekly lessons and daily classes with him for three years. He is known across the world, and will be dearly missed by all.
A Shaker Gift Song was originally the third movement of Frank Ticheli’s Simple Gifts. The work is based off of the Shaker lullaby, “Here Take This Lovely Flower.” It is an example of the phenomenon of such a gift song; the music received from the spirits by Shakers while in a trance. This lullaby embraces the Shakers’ lifestyle ideals of “childlike simplicity.”
