FACULTY & STAFF NEWS - Dr. Charles Menghini, 
President & Director of Bands

Dr. Charles Menghini travelled to Davenport, IA, on September 13 and 14 to visit and work with the members of the Davenport Central High School Band.  Davenport Central Band Director Alex Wilga (BMEd ‘09) invited Dr. Menghini to observe a marching rehearsal, address his leadership team and work the high school Wind Ensemble.  Dr. Menghini brought with him Korben Wilson and Taylor Wells, both graduates of the Davenport Central High School band program and in their first year at VanderCook.
On September 20, Dr. Menghini travelled to Harvard, IL, to speak to and work with the Harvard High School band.  Harvard has three VanderCook alums teaching band in the district.  Erika (Lund) Coffer (BMEd ’06) teaches 5thgrade beginners, Lindsay (Bassett) Boyette (BMEd ‘07) teaches the middle school (6-7-8) bands, and Korey Coffer (BMEd ’04, MMEd ‘10) is the high school band director.  Joining Dr. Menghini in Harvard was Katia Schmitt a Harvard alumna who is in her second year at VanderCook and junior horn major Quinn Cavallo.
On Tuesday, September 27, Dr. Menghini served as a clinician for the annual Oswego High School Panther Review marching band festival and on Thursday, September 29, Dr. Menghini visited alumnus Donald Stinson (BMEd ‘07) at Joliet Central Township High School.  Stinson is in his first year at Joliet and is the fifth band director in Joliet Township history following in the footsteps of A. R. McAllister, Sr., Bruce Houseknecht, Ted Lega and Michael Fiske.
Dr. Menghini has visits planned to several other high schools for the fall and will also be presenting clinics for the Ontario, Canada, and New York State Music Educator Associations in November and December, respectfully.
