The Odyssey, by Soon Hee Newbold (1974- )

Dawid Zurek is originally from Poland, but he moved here when he was very young. He has been attending VanderCook College of Music for four years now and is planning on graduating in May 2013. Dawid is involved with a traditional Polish folk band that plays a great amount for any occasion. His plans after graduation are to teach either at an elementary school or high school as an orchestra director. One of Dawid’s major influences in life was his father, who taught Dawid how to play at the age of seven and inspired him to keep playing throughout his life.
The Odysseyis about a hero and legend, Odysseus, and his adventure back home. In this adventure, he encounters many mythological creatures and various difficulties in this adventure. Soon Hee Newbold, the composer, began studying piano at the age of five and violin at seven. She has written and arranged works for albums, recording projects, and various performing ensembles. In The Odyssey, there are harmonics which make this piece that much more beautiful.
