Outreach Programs at VanderCook

Outreach efforts at VanderCook are organized into our Urban Music Education Initiative, which includes the following programs:

The New Young Guitarists Program is a pilot program designed to provide introductory guitar lessons to Chicago elementary school students. This grant-funded program is currently being conducted at Doolittle Elementary School.

The Community Drum Circle is a free, weekly recreational music activity designed for young and old alike. Benefits bring families together, engage kids in a positive activity, and provide increased health benefits.

The Community Music Program provides reduced-cost and free music lessons to area students in need.

The Community Guitar Ensemble is a community classical guitar ensemble for members of the community directed by Dr. Julie Goldberg, professor of applied guitar.

Clinics at VanderCook

If you would like to schedule a special clinic for your students, VanderCook offers a number of options for visiting ensembles of all ages and ability levels. Visiting ensembles spend an hour and a half with one of our faculty members. Clinics are available for bands, choirs, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and other groups.
