Outreach Programs at VanderCook
Outreach efforts at VanderCook are organized into our Urban Music Education Initiative, which includes the following programs:
The New Young Guitarists Program is a pilot program designed to provide introductory guitar lessons to Chicago elementary school students. This grant-funded program is currently being conducted at Doolittle Elementary School.
The Community Drum Circle is a free, weekly recreational music activity designed for young and old alike. Benefits bring families together, engage kids in a positive activity, and provide increased health benefits.
The Community Music Program provides reduced-cost and free music lessons to area students in need.
The Community Guitar Ensemble is a community classical guitar ensemble for members of the community directed by Dr. Julie Goldberg, professor of applied guitar.
Clinics at VanderCook
If you would like to schedule a special clinic for your students, VanderCook offers a number of options for visiting ensembles of all ages and ability levels. Visiting ensembles spend up to 90 minutes with one of our experienced faculty members. Clinics are available for bands, choirs, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and other groups.
Booking a Clinic
- Groups and agents should contact Amy Lenting at alenting@vandercook.edu or 312-225-6288 x230 to check schedule and room availability.
- Once a date/time is agreed upon, the group or agent will be emailed an invoice that includes instructions for making a (non-refundable) deposit.
- Deposits include the room rental and student set-up and assistance fees.
- The signed contract and deposit must be received within 30 days after the date of booking, or the date and time will be released for re-booking by other groups.
- Groups/agents are responsible for completing the Clinic Set-up Chart and Equipment Request Form and sending them them to Pete Frasso via email (pfrasso@vandercook.edu) or fax (312-225-5211). Please return these at least 30 days before the scheduled clinic.
- Clinician rates are detailed on the contracts. Groups/agents must provide a check made out directly to the clinician for the amount noted.
