Computer and Audiovisual Facilities

Four public computers (3 Macs and 1 IBM compatible) are available for Internet searching or word processing. Personal laptops can be used in the library on the wireless network.

Listening and viewing equipment are available in the library. We have facilities to play compact discs, cassettes, LP records, VHS and DVDs.


Reference Services

A Music Reference Librarian is available most hours to answer your questions in the library. You may submit a question via email to a VanderCook reference librarian
Please allow up to two business days for a response. We will try to answer your question as soon as possible. Send email.

if you need extra help, a reference interview with the librarian is recommended. To schedule a reference interview, send email to the Music Librarian. Be sure to include a list of times you are available.


Borrowing From Other Libraries

Galvin Library (Illinois Institute of Technology)

Ruppel Library patrons have full borrowing priveleges at Illinois Institute of Technology's Galvin Library, situated on the same campus, within two blocks of VanderCook College of Music. This large research library provides access to print and electronic resources in the humanities, math, sciences, education and psychology.

Harold Washington Library Center (Chicago Public Library)

Ruppel Library patrons are encouraged to visit Harold Washington Library Center, Chicago Public Library's main building. Harold Washington has an extensive music collection (8th floor) and is accessible to the general public. Chicago residents and most suburban residents can obtain Chicago Public Library borrower cards (bring two forms of identification).

Thanks to the courtesy of participating libraries in the Chicago metropolitan area, this pass may be used to provide personal access to libraries not open to the general public. If you would like to visit another Chicago-area library, visit Ruppel Library to obtain an InfoPass.
